5 Spring Gutter Cleaning & Maintenance Tips
Gutters don’t just catch rain running off the roof, they protect your home’s landscaping, siding, and also prevent damage to your home’s foundation. When they get clogged with debris like leaves and sticks, water can start to trickle under your roof which can lead to major roof damage. As roof experts, we recommend cleaning out your gutters once or twice a year. If your home has a lot of overhanging trees you should check and clean them more often. Here are a few gutter cleaning tips that our team has compiled to help you this spring!
Make Sure You Have a Reliable Ladder
For starters, make sure your ladder is extendable and sturdy. Using a ladder stabilizer is a good way to keep yourself safe and the gutters from any potential damage. If you don’t have access to a stabilizer, then we suggest having another person there to help you.
Dress for The Job
Cleaning gutters means wearing old clothes you don’t care to get dirty. Protect your hands from any sharp debris you may find in the gutters by wearing rubber or thick cloth gloves.
Use a Tarp for Easy Clean-Up
Before you’re up on the ladder cleaning out the debris, lay a tarp out around you. This is so you can toss the debris from the roof on it for an easy clean-up while keeping your lawn and landscaping clean.
Flush Them Out
Once you’ve gotten all the debris out of the gutters, it’s now time to flush them out. Use a water hose to rinse out the rest of the debris down the gutters and downspouts and make sure to watch for any leaks!
Make Any Repairs
If you happened to notice any leaks or loose gutters, it’s important to get it repaired so more damage isn’t done.
